- 700 g minced meat (beef or mixed)
- 500 g macaroni No. 2
- 1 large onion, finely chopped

- 200 g Kefalograviera (grated)
- 200 g kefalotyri (grated)
- Some chopped parsley
- 2 eggs (optional)
- 1 tsp butter
- salt, pepper
- A little oil for frying
- 1 tbsp melted butter or margarine (for the surface)
The Jotis Bechamel mix is available here !
🍳 Preparation:
-
Prepare minced meat:
Heat some oil in a pan and fry the minced meat together with the finely chopped onion.
Add 1 tablespoon of salt, some pepper, parsley, the chopped tomatoes (or tomato juice) and 2 glasses of water.
Simmer over medium heat for about 30 minutes until the liquid is almost completely absorbed.
Optional: Mix in 2 beaten eggs at the end. -
Cooking macaroni:
Cook the macaroni in plenty of salted water until al dente.
Then rinse with cold water and drain well.
Mix in 2 tablespoons of butter and almost all of the grated cheese (reserve some cheese for later). -
Layering or mixing:
Place half of the macaroni into a large baking dish.
Spread the prepared minced meat on top.
Then add the remaining macaroni on top.
Alternatively, you can mix everything (pasta, meat and cheese) together directly if you don't want any layering. -
Prepare Jotis Béchamel:
Prepare the béchamel according to the package instructions using 1.5 liters of milk.
Pour evenly over the pastitsio.
Brush the surface with a little melted butter or margarine and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top. -
Bake:
Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 45–60 minutes until the surface is golden brown.
🍽️ Serving suggestion:
After baking, let the pastitsio cool slightly before slicing it—this will help it retain its shape better. Serve with Greek salad or a dollop of yogurt. Enjoy!
